Sanpete Marinade (for chicken or turkey)

Sanpete Marinade is a tangy, flavorful marinade that’s perfect for grilling. Made with soy sauce, salad oil, 7UP or Sprite, garlic powder, and horseradish sauce, this marinade infuses meat with savory, slightly sweet flavors. It’s great for turkey steaks, chicken, or even pork.

This is a well-known recipe in our area.  There used to be a religious pageant here. People flocked in the thousands and the local church provided this as part of their meal.  A definite favorite.

Sanpete Marinade (for chicken or turkey)

A simple marinade made with soy sauce, salad oil, 7UP, and garlic powder. Ideal for turkey, chicken, or pork, it’s perfect for grilling and full of savory flavors.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup soy sauce
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 cups lemon lime soda
  • 1 1/2 Tablespoons garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 Tablespoons horseradish sauce optional

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, salad oil, 7UP or Sprite, garlic powder, and horseradish sauce. Whisk together until well combined.
Pour the marinade over boneless turkey steaks, chicken, or pork in a shallow dish or resealable plastic bag.
Seal and refrigerate for overnight to allow the flavors to meld.
When ready to cook, preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
Grill the marinated meat for 5–7 minutes per side (or until cooked through).
    Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • If you prefer a less sweet marinade, you can reduce the amount of 7UP or Sprite.
  • For a stronger flavor, let the meat marinate for up to 24 hours.
  • This marinade works well for boneless chicken breasts, pork chops, or turkey steaks.
The Sanpete Marinade recipe, with the ingredients listed, should be enough to cover approximately:
  • 2–3 lbs of meat (chicken, turkey, or pork)
This amount should be adequate for:
  • 4–6 boneless chicken breasts
  • 4–6 boneless turkey steaks
  • 3–4 pork chops (depending on thickness)
You can adjust the marinade amount proportionally if you’re working with more or less meat. If you're marinating a larger quantity, I recommend doubling the marinade ingredients to ensure all the meat is evenly coated.
