French Toast Sticks
Ingredients
- 4 large eggs beaten
- 1 cup milk
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 Tablespoon all-purpose flour (helps thicken batter)
- 4 Tablespoon butter melted
- 2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- pinch ground cloves
- pinch salt
- 1 loaf texas toast bread
Instructions
- In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, flour, melted butter, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt until smooth.Cut each slice of Texas toast into thirds to form sticks.Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and lightly grease with butter.Dip each bread stick into the egg mixture, coating both sides.Place on the hot skillet and cook for 2–3 minutes per side, until golden brown.Repeat with remaining bread sticks, adding more butter to the pan as needed.Serve warm with maple syrup, flavored syrup, or jam.
Notes
- The flour helps the batter cling to the bread and creates a slightly crisp exterior.Keep cooked sticks warm on a baking sheet in a 200°F oven if cooking in batches.Cinnamon sugar can be sprinkled on while hot for extra flavor.
