Cheesy Bacon Fries with Spicy Dip
Ingredients
- 1 (2-pound) bag frozen french fries
- 1 cup colby-monterey jack cheese shredded
- 6 pieces bacon cooked and crumbled
- 24 ounces peanut oil (may also use vegetable oil)
Dipping Sauce
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 Tablespoon prepared horseradish sauce
- 1 dash cayenne pepper
- 1 dash salt
- 1 dash black pepper
Instructions
- Heat oil to 350°F (175°C). If you don't have a thermometer, ensure the oil is hot enough by placing a French fry in the oil. It should sizzle and float to the top immediately. If it sinks to the bottom and barely bubbles, the oil is not hot enough.Fry the potatoes in small batches until golden brown and crispy. Ensure they cook evenly and drain well on paper towels. You can keep them warm in the oven while you fry the rest of the batch. While the fries cook, prepare the dipping sauce: In a bowl, mix together sour cream, horseradish sauce, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to combine.Once the fries are done, arrange them on a platter. Sprinkle with shredded cheese and crumbled bacon. Pop them back into the oven to melt the cheese, about 5 minutes.Serve the cheesy bacon fries hot with the spicy dipping sauce on the side.
Notes
- If you prefer a lighter alternative, you can bake the fries instead of frying them. Just follow the instructions on the bag for baking temperature and time.
- You can also add extra toppings such as green onions or jalapeños for more flavor and color.
- For a vegetarian version, skip the bacon and try adding extra cheese or your favorite plant-based protein.
