Caramel Rice Crispies

Caramel Rice Krispies Treats are a quick, no-bake dessert made with butter, marshmallows, caramel bits, and Rice Krispies. The caramel adds a delicious richness to the traditional treat, making them extra special.

Ingredients

  • 5 Tablespoons butter
  • 10 cups crispy rice cereal
  • 16 ounce bag mini marshmallows
  • 11 ounce bag Kraft caramel bits

Instructions

  • Melt the butter: In a large microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter in the microwave, about 30 seconds at a time, stirring in between. Alternatively, you can melt the butter on the stovetop over medium heat.
Melt the marshmallows: Add the mini marshmallows to the melted butter and continue to melt them in the microwave or on the stovetop. Stir occasionally until the marshmallows are fully melted and smooth.
Add the caramel bits: Stir in the Kraft caramel bits and continue to melt the mixture. Stir constantly until the caramel bits are fully melted and incorporated into the marshmallow mixture.
Add Rice Krispies: Once the caramel and marshmallow mixture is smooth, add the Rice Krispies cereal and stir until evenly coated with the caramel mixture.
Press into pan: Lightly spray a 9x13-inch pan with non-stick spray. Pour the mixture into the pan and use a spatula or your hands (lightly greased with non-stick spray) to press the mixture evenly into the pan. Be gentle while pressing to prevent the treats from becoming too compact.
Let cool and cut: Allow the treats to cool and set for about 30 minutes to 1 hour before cutting into squares.

Notes

  • For extra flavor: Add a pinch of sea salt to the caramel mixture for a salty-sweet contrast.
  • Storage: Store these treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. You can also freeze them for up to 2 months, just make sure to wrap them tightly in plastic wrap and foil.
  • Stovetop option: If you prefer the stovetop method, melt the butter in a large pot over medium heat, then add the marshmallows and caramel bits, stirring until everything is melted and combined before adding the Rice Krispies.
