Yeast Waffles

These yeast waffles are light, crisp, and slightly tangy with a tender interior. The batter rests before cooking, allowing the yeast to create a beautifully airy texture.

Yeast Waffles

Light and crisp yeast waffles made with a rested batter for extra flavor and texture.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 cups cool water
  • 2 Tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup butter melted

Instructions

  • Heat the milk until hot but not boiling. Let cool to lukewarm.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the lukewarm milk, water, sugar, yeast, salt, and egg.
Beat on low speed for 1 minute, until combined.
Add the flour and melted butter. Beat again for 1 minute, until smooth.
Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel. Place in a warm spot and let rise until bubbly on top, about 30 minutes.
Preheat and lightly grease a waffle iron.
Stir the batter gently, then pour onto the hot waffle iron.
Cook until waffles are golden brown and crisp.

Notes

  • Batter should be thin and pourable.
A slightly tangy flavor is normal with yeast waffles.
For a warmer rise, place the covered bowl in an oven that has been briefly warmed, then turned off.
